When it Rains, it Pours

The rain poured over the concrete
pretending it was a soapy rag
cleaning up the spilled milk
on the kitchen floor,
pretending it could wash away
the script of every life that was
lost to the pavement,
like a pulley lifting the
spirits from the ground into the clouds.
