A Mothers Touch
Out of the dark and into the light,
the cries of a newborn echo across the bleached walls
As one child is handed to mother bathed in love and delight,
And another is handed a mother under a mask of deceit.
Listen for the laugh of a toddler as he wrestles with his mother,
Now listen to the child sit idly by as she overhears mother and father fight,
Watch as he is pushed on his new bike down the street by his mother Cheering him on to pedal faster,
Now watch as she gets disciplined as her mother sits there on the floor crying,
bloodied and bruised.
Listen to his mother reading him a bedtime story and tuck him away to bed,
Now listen her to breath heavily terrified of the next day,
wishing mother was here,
Watch as he gets out of the car and comes around front to get a kiss from his mother,
Now watch as she gets out of the car while mom lights a cigarette
tossing her book bag at her as she exits the car,
Listen as he hands over his grades to mother and his mother says “I’m proud of you”
Now listen to her mother as she looks over her grades and say “You are disgraceful”
Watch as he comes from the stage
getting his well deserved diploma with his mother
coming up to him and wrap her arms around him,
Now watch as she comes off the stage after receiving her hard earned diploma
with no one to greet her, no one to hug her, and no one to congratulate her.
