the holidays
shopping for the people you love
bright lights being strung,
here and there
winter break
a chance to unwind
people handing out smiles
like red cups at Starbucks
volunteering to help out
the ones who are less fortunate
and passing on that smile
to someone else
in need
a house that is warm
with the smell of cookies
the tall christmas tree
that sits in the corner,
but barely stands up
because it so heavily weighted
with years of memories
the holidays
