Tuesday Night Volleyball
5:30pm. Volleyball is the only thing running through my mind.
I charge onto the court on the right side of the gym,
passing all of the wealthy players and teams,
by the speakers screaming music,
I’m ready for my first 8th grade volleyball game.
The people are all clustered together in the bleachers,
and the air is boiling of warmth.
I halt where I’m at,
looking at my coach with despair,
the buzzer blears,
the ball smacks the floor,
the refs signal the captains over,
the game has now started.
We all take positions on the court
listening to the squeaking of our shoes on the shiny gym floor,
as we wait for the whistle to blow through my ears.
The ball was going to come right at us at any second.
“A, C, E, ACE” the other team howled,
the ball slammed right in the middle of the court with no one going for it.
I already knew this was going to be one tough game-
I get in my 4 position, waiting for the ball to come just as fast.
As the game continued, all they did was smash our faces into the ground-
I was ready to blow on them
Really.
As the night continued we turned our backs,
we smashed their faces instead,
I watched the scoreboard gain 1 point after another.
It was a miracle,
we came back like beasts winning the game.
The sound of the crowd roaring like tigers made us cheer along with them,
that night was definitely night to remember!
