Rains
Rain
drags its fingers across windows
kisses the earth with its tears
batters the trees out of love
nosedives from the heavens
glides down once-dry skin
arches over resilient umbrellas
stretches its liquid legs into crevices
beats the ground with its fists
chants a ferocious battle hymn
exhausts its energies
hums a gentle tune
surrenders to the unconquerable sun
slips away without a word
sleeps in the soft embrace of a cloud
until morning
