A True Friendship
I wanted to show you a true friendship.
That when a man is at his lowest, he can rely on his friend
to help him,
to hold his hand,
to be there.
I wanted to show you a brother.
A man that has an unbreakable bond with his fellow soldiers,
he would risk his life for his comrades.
They would stand by each other,
protect each other,
die for each other.
I wanted to show you the cold truth about war.
How people could end up dead at any moment,
people you just met,
people you grew up with,
anybody.
I wanted to show you a true friend.
A title that needs no recognition,
someone to talk to,
someone to rely on,
someone to just be there.

I saw a picture taken by Larry Burrows of a man in pain and his friend held his hand through the pain during the Vietnam War. It made me think of what the essence of a true friendship was.
