standing in the cattails.

waiting for the ducks to fly over.
feeling the cold metal of my shotgun.
the bay water hitting the shore.
remembering the donut i had at 4:30 am.

the warmth of my jacket is all i got.
the water feels like ice.
the little sprinkles of rain here and there.
my fingers feel like icicles.
finally a duck flies over.

we crouch down and wait for it to circle back.
it starts to cuff into the decoys.
my dad says wait, then says take him.
i put my shotgun up to my shoulder.
click the safety off and pull the trigger.
BOOM!!  the 870 kicks in my shoulder
and pounds me backwards.

the duck drops and i take another shot.
BOOM!! i walk out to get the duck.
my dad asked me what it was.
i tell him “its a mallard .
i bring it back in and
start over again.

paragraph
i learned that i can write a lot more than i use to be able to last year. i have been able to write for longer and write a lot more in shorter times.i learned that i am a lot better at writing then i thought i was. all my teachers that i have had have said that i am good at writing i should keep writing different thing. when we first started at the beginning of the year i didn't really like writing and thought it was boring. when we first started the poems i didn't really want to do any of them because it didn't sound fun to me. now that we have got into poems i thought it was fun and i started to like writing more. i really like writing now because i have a lot of stuff to write about. my favorite poem was my photo poem because it was about duck hunting. duck hunting is one of my favorite things to do and i really like to write about it. that is what my first poem is about that one is my favorite. they improvement i made to this poem was put it so it looked more like a poem and not a bunch of paragraphs and changed the font. my original improvement that i was going to make was to make the poem a duck. it did not work because i could not type in the form of a duck. i chose this improvement because i thought it would make it look cooler and more organized in the stanzas.
