I’m from dusty gravel driveways
and pastures full of wildflowers.
From mud-covered creek beds
and an old apple tree standing against time.

I’m from dreams never dreamt
and wishes never wished.
From thoughts I yearn for
and goals I strive to reach.
I’m from ideas I’m afraid to make a reality.

I’m from dreams of standing up
to the people bringing me down
and telling me my goals are crazy.
I’m from radical ideas of world-wide equality
and children never going hungry.

I’m from the morals of loving your neighbor
and encouraging everyone to speak up.

I’m from the hopes
the dreams
and the wishes
that make me who I am.

I’m from the belief that our greatest wishes
determine who we become.
And that sometimes
our goals are all we can see.
That everything else is forgotten.

I’m from knowing we must find balance.
That we can’t let dreams of what we don’t have
blind us from all that we do.
But also that we can’t say goodbye
to the dreams we’ve been dreaming
since we were small-eyed six year olds.
I’m from knowing that letting those go
is like letting apart of who we are fly away
without ever being explored.

I’m from rain boots
mud puddles
and fistfuls of daisies.
I’m from goals I’ll always live for
and from dreams I’ll never stop dreaming.
