Baby, you need to eat.
I am sorry to say,
But raw carrots will not fill the void
Of your ravaged self-esteem.

We went to the party,
Bats and Geese lined up against the wall,
But when people threw up, it was because of too much,
Not because of too little.

We went to the bathroom,
You changed your shirt.
“Boys like to see some cleave,”
Your collarbone is a slow melting icicle.

You were with a boy last night.
His rum laden eyes looked you up and down.
He paid you a couple compliments,
While you sold him your body.

I told you to eat before.
You did not listen.
That is why your mind feels like
Grey hail storms.

You see that girl over there,
The pretty one with the long blonde hair,
She’s sitting with him.
You miss him.

You think to yourself,
That you are not skinny enough,
That you are not pretty enough,
That you are not good enough.

The next morning you are silent.
Last night’s wrongdoings flood over you,
And keep you hushed.
You should not have done that.

I saw you honey,
As a violent rage ripped apart your composure.
Hurtful words erupted like magma
From your food deprived mouth.

You thought about your nose job,
It was supposed to make you beautiful.
You are ashamed
At how you are still the same girl.

But do not fear,
Sweet girl,
You will somehow
Make it out

Strong.

This work is the result of me watching a dear friend suffer anorexia. I wrote this as a way to better understand and feel her harmful insecurity.
