Future

It’s hard to believe our journey has not yet begun,
As blinded as we are high school was meant to be fun.
When a silly event occurs in our life,
We claim our world has ended and we’ve been impaled by a knife.
But the truth is our life has not yet started.
We must distinguish what truly matters and what should be parted.
Popularity holds as much meaning as a rumor;
It’s useless and pointless and will mean nothing in the future.
When we walk across the stage with that diploma in our hand,
Your “reputation” will vanish into grains of sand.
The only thing you should be worrying about is giving your education your all,
Because those you think matter, will mean nothing next fall.

Sweet Summer

The ring of the bell jingled in my ears,
As I strolled down the street with my peers.
We wiggled and wobbled
As our two wheeled bikes hobbled.
Screaming “Stop the truck stop the truck”
“You’re about to pass our boundary and then we’ll be stuck!”
The sweet ice cream aroma
Put our tiny taste buds in a coma.
Only thing giving us the strength to peddle faster,
The truck came to a halt as if we became its master.
Vanilla, sherbet, chocolate, and more,
It tasted much better from inside a truck than from inside a store.
Huffing and puffing my eyes filled with a twinkle.
“May I have chocolate vanilla swirl with extra sprinkles?”

Death

Like a lion, it preys on the innocent.
Unable to tell which direction it’s headed;
You stay oblivious to the thought of death.
You feel as if you’ll live an eternity,
But that’s because you don’t see it coming.
Slowly creeping towards the living,
The dark shadow engross’ its next victim.
No longer surrounded by oxygen,
Life slowly slips from your fingertips.
You are no longer able to grasp it,
You can only release it.
But this dark shadow we seem so afraid of,
Brings you to a whole new world.
A life full of youth and color,
Suffering disappears from existence
And true eternity is swept into your heart.

The author's comments:

I was inspired by the "cliques" that leave others out in high school. I feel very strongly that popularity is just a fantasy and I want others to know and understand that in the future none of the silly things will matter. It will not matter if you were worshiped in high school or if found joy in excluding yourself and finding an adventure in a fictional novel.

As for the death peom, although it is dark, I feel that it is spontaneous. Death is a very beautiful thign and although it is seen in a negative connotation, it is also positive. Those suffering are set free. Death can occur at any time and it's so scary to think about never knowing when exactly it will occur, but it will be a wonderful, new journey for the victim to conquer.
