The Woman She Used to Be
2579 Abbeydale Drive
Filled with love and the haze of cigarette smoke
Built on the foundation of family
Grounded on the base of faith
A trip to Grandma’s was like a trip to Disney
Entertainment in the form of my uncles telling jokes
Young children running every which way
So much food shoved in your face that you can’t bend over for 3 whole days
A new surprise around every corner
Everything was comfortable
Familiar even
Those were the days I long for
When everything was normal
Now it’s filled with confusion
Frustration
Grief
Walking in the house isn’t fun anymore
It’s painful
Painful to watch my grandma struggle to do everyday things
Did she eat today?
Did she take her meds?
Is Melissa Cliff’s daughter?
Frustrating to see a living saint fight with herself everyday
Introductions replace hugs
Pity replaces familiarity
Alzheimer's replaces the woman she used to be
