What I Saw
The most beautiful sight I ever saw was an old white car covered with dust
Sitting atop an oil pan, and a wrench, and the other remnants of
This labor of love.
Filled with the scent of a man once so great, he left
the red leather seats covered with the oils of
the garage
and he left the car to me,
smudged leather seats and
roof like the ceiling of the world.
The car with the name of the bird of fire, of lighting, and summer storms
the car i didn’t want, not this way.
But still his car, even if he doesn’t drive it down
those desert roads.
The car I will love for the rest of my life,
this car with smudges on the seats
