The Sun and Moon

October 4, 2015

Scraggly, piercing branches on two black trees

reaching out for one another

twisted together in a painful embrace,

desperate.

Bound together but leaning apart---

A kind of excrutiating love

Even their shadows embracing in the same desperate way,

a reflection of a life they long to have,

the shadows a giveaway for a deeper wanting.

A wanting that the embracing trees try to hide,

hidden in the glow of the yellow lights

covering them

hiding them

hiding all traces of what they have,

A lonely love.
