I Am an Overcomer
I am a child
Who needs toys, to know she’s loved, coloring books
Who loves her mom and dad, school, baby dolls
Who sees stickers, scraped knees, birthday parties
Who fears spiders, heights, time out
Who dreams of becoming a princess
I am joyful
I am a teenager
Who needs a hug, a razor blade, a rope
Who loves the feeling of pain, not being home, death
Who sees permanent lines in my skin, parents fighting, black
Who fears rejection, judgment, broken homes
Who dreams of a world without divorce
I am depressed
I am an adult
Who has love, a home, a future
Who loves her family, her job, life
Who sees success, blue skies, happiness
Who fears failing as a parent, not being around for her kids, spiders
Who dreams of growing old
I am an overcomer
