The Summer I Was
The freedom was flowing through my veins.
The feeling of being trusted,
Able to go wherever I want,
With whoever I want,
Whenever I want.
The smell of fresh cut grass was so refreshing.
Swimming with the boys every week
And returning to the house
To play a few games of Xbox football.
The occasional summer romance
Was just enough to keep everyday
Unpredictable and exciting.
The basement couches were always
The popular hangout spots.
Every serious conversation, handstand competition,
Sitting close maybe even holding hands during a scary movie,
All of it happened on the basement couch.
Midnight runs to Taco Bell with the boys.
Those were my favorite
The summer I was sixteen.
