Castaway Bay
I open my eyes,
the single ray of sunlight shining
through the gap in the curtain greets me.
I can hear the birds,
Mostly the squawking of seagulls and crows.
I feel the ice cold boards beneath my feet.
I lift my arms up to the sky,
tighten my muscles,
then release all that tension.
The creak and slam of the front door.
I feel the sand between my bare toes.
Then the chill of the water.
I look out at the spectrum of warm colors,
On the horizon line.
As wind flows through my hair.
I can hear the sound of waves splashing on the beach
I see silhouettes of row boats in the distance.
It’s a loud type of quiet.

This poem was inspired by a moment in life that made me feel at peace. I hope that others will feel that peace while reading this.
