Sliding Past Home Plate

I remember the captivating stillness,
while I was sprinting to home base.
All eyes were on me.
My only goal was to not get smacked by
the large bloody paw,
that would end this so called “game”.
I didn’t want to disappoint
my family by getting out.
That is when I decided
to dodge the intimidating guardian
that was guarding home plate.
Once I had gotten past the vicious beast,
I realized that,
I had won.
My determination,
My effort,
had led me to victory.
