Hours spent on the road
yet they pass like minutes
when you’re by my side.
Honest conversations by
the lake shore,
sand between our toes
and the most beautiful
of sunsets to grace our eyes.
You’re restless and unappreciative
of how how the colors of
the sky blends seamlessly
into the reflection along the waters,
but that’s okay.
I can look towards the sky enough
for the both of us.
Your sad eyes seem to
be stuck to me and
you’re holding on to me
so tightly, as if
you expect me to fade away.
My colors are as bright
as those of the sky,
a little rain can’t
wash me away.
Now the sun has set
and the stars start
to show themselves.
We’ve moved inland,
my head is in
your lap and your
hands are in my hair.
We counted all the constellations
we could name,
saw a few shooting stars
and a satellite or two.
Still your eyes stayed
on my face as I
looked to the sky
full of more stars than
i’ve ever seen.
You didn’t care much
for all the colors of
the setting sun reflecting
off the calm lake or
the constellations in
the night sky.
Maybe you saw
the colors in me
and decided they were
enough, or the
twinkle in my eyes
to be worth more
than the shooting star.
Maybe I was enough for you.
