Where Im From
I come from gyros,
From salads, and Nutella crepes.
I am from loud family dinners,
Long ocean swims, mountain views.
From soccer and tennis games on the street,
Where everyone can relax in the sweet and sunny
Mediterranean b r e e z e.
I am from long flights to Michigan,
And phone calls with loved ones.
Starting with poor new beginnings in a new country
Learning to communicate with strange new people.
I’m from self-motivation and support of family.
From hard work and pushing forward through tough times.
I am from vacations every summer,
Swimming, kayaking, hiking, and dining.
I am from hot chocolate, skiing, and snow days in the cold winter.
I am from movie nights, bonfires,
And figuring life out at 5am sleepovers with best friends.
From sweaty practices.
From cheering on home teams and family athletes.
I am from flights between two special homes.
Exciting and emotional hellos.
And depressing and heart aching goodbyes.
I am from empty feelings because I miss my family
But the most amazing friends that get me through it.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
