Waiting
Standing at a street corner
waiting for the right time to cross.
You see cars zoom past
feel the wind from each car the passes
blowing gently against your face
sweeping your hair away from your neck.
You hear the radio from a car that passes
and a horn from another.
Beside you are people in cars
waiting for their light to change.
A man in a suit is talking on his phone
his face twisted in frustration and stress.
A woman in a rusted car smokes a cigarette
tapping her fingers against the steering wheel
to a beat too low for others to hear.
A man across the street is waiting as well.
His dog sits patiently beside him
panting in the heat.
All of us are here at the same moment,
none of us aware of what’s happening
we are all just waiting.
