The definition of Insanity is truly a complex one
It is more than a mental illness
And more than madness
Everyone has their own definition of Insanity

Some may say it is trying too hard
Others may say it is being overwhelmed
You may say it is hating your job
But I say Insanity has a much deeper meaning

It is being trapped in one state of mind,
Trying something over and over.
Hoping for a different result while changing nothing
Anticipation without action

It is giving third and fourth chances,
Expecting change.
Getting hopes too high,
Trusting without time,
That, is Insanity

It is going against your instincts.
Convincing yourself it is alright,
Falsifying happiness.
Altering goals for the sake of others.
Believing without proof.

It is closing an unfinished chapter,
Cloaking conflict.
Giving in to anxiety and depression
Worrying without cause.
That, is Insanity

We are all insane at some time or another
Whether it is something already listed,
giving in, or giving up,
drinking away demons,
or smoking away sorrows

Judging before reading
Being blinded by hate,
Putting your potential on hold
Letting others keep you back.
Dying without letting yourself live.
That is my definition of Insanity, what's yours?

This is a piece I wrote because I took a literature class And we had to write a poem about something that inspired me. So I chose the famous Albert Einstein quote
