Two voices crash
A woman screams
The house is collapsing

We hide in the basement
Trying to escape the screeches,
But it finds us

Doors slam
A suitcase zips up
It’s the final straw
One of them is done

We teeter over to the edge of the window
Peek through the blinds
Hoping that we have the Angel

She is leaving
We are stuck with the Devil

All families, at one point or another, experience conflict and turmoil. I wrote this poem, thinking about various families that have been separated or broken because of divorce. The children have it the worst; they need both their mother and father.
