The Open Net
The sunshine was slowly fading.
The shadows were getting longer.
The field revealed a striking green color,
And the blades of grass blew softly from the slight breeze.
But the feet of two teams and a ball,
They moved quickly atop of it.
Our movement helped blow the stray hairs out of our faces,
That had previously fallen from our ponytails,
And the speed we ran at,
Only added to the wind,
Causing our bright blue uniforms
To billow in the wind as well.
We were racing towards the target;
Nothing could distract us then.
All that was heard to us during that moment
Was the sound of hard breaths,
Pounding of feet on the ground,
Maybe the small chatter between us to get in position.
There was a rush to get back to the standing net,
Just waiting, with it’s mouth open.
The girls in blue would protect it,
Protect the frail, yet strong goal.
It was as if the net was depending on us
To keep that small ball out of it’s mouth,
So that it could never choke on it again.

This poem was inspired by examining an old picture and taking myself back to that moment in time so that I could talk about all of the things I heard, saw, and felt. I hope people will see this to go back to a certain moment that they experienced. Hopefully they will see the beauty of that moment and what they felt.
