I, too, learn

You say its a challenge
I say its a gift
You say I am different,
unequal,
undeserving,
unintelligent.
I say without me you would not have
the light bulb
american cars
  or
know the speed of light
You say I am stupid and lazy
I say my brain is bigger and smarter than yours
You see car and bed
I see
Automobile
and deb
I say you do not understand
You are misunderstanding me
I do not do well at school
But I own companies,
island
run countries
I create movie,
music,
comedy
and scientific ideas
that are iconic

so
I, too, succeed

The author's comments:

Dyslexics are too often labeled and generalized into over simplified caterogries. I hope that the reader begins to understand the complexities of dyslexia as well as develop an appreciation for the gift dyslexia is. In an age where discrimination is a volatile issue, the young people of this country should understand that discrimination exists towards the learning disabled population as well.
