Shades of Green: Seven ways of looking at the color Green
I. The hum of a motor
As it powers on
Fills the room,
Like a kittens purr;
The light changes from orange to green.
The gamer
takes the controller in hand,
and a wicked comes to light.
II. Sickly sweet perfumes
Coat the air
Fresh buds dot the trees,
And birds returning
Land on the branches,
Which burst into life,
With splashes of color,
Bringing the joy
Of a long awaited spring.
III. Thick, white snow
Blankets the ground,
A barren wasteland
Of white, grey, and black,
Desolate of life,
And color.
But on the distance,
An everlasting symbol of life,
Shelters a few beating hearts,
The only speck of vibrant color for miles,
And the heady scent
Of pine, cedar, and Christmas
Decorates the air.
IV. Small blades
Stand tall,
Individual life forms
Can be seen,
But are overall lost
In this herd of green zebras,
Bending gracefully in the wind,
Giving way unlike the mighty oak,
Easy going,
Friendly,
And sometimes irritating.
V. Teasing waves
Lap at the seashore,
Leaving behind long tendrils of foam,
Lining along the shore,
In the pales shade
Of green.
VI. The horizon is set aflame
By the sun,
Casting long shadows
As the darkness sets in,
Colors blend together
Into shadow
To welcome in the coming night,
The sea of grass, and trees,
Now an ocean of black.
VII. Grey skies hang low,
Stoking the grieving souls,
And completing the atmosphere
Of misery, and loss.
A box is lowered into an empty hole,
And hidden beneath the solid ground.
A delicate flower is laid
On the freshly turned soil,
The color of life,
renewal,
and healing
mocks the bleeding hearts,
a bitter irony,
and a reminder
that life goes on.
