The man with a long grey beard and dirty clothes under the tree out of the snow,
was in the vietnam war so long ago. I guess the country had no use for a hero
who lost his arm Fifty years ago.

A soldier who thought what he did would earn everyone’s respect,
he didn’t see it from a different aspect, the government wouldn’t treat him as an asset.
When he joined was this lack of respect what he was to expect?
He would have chose something else except, this is the life he has to accept.

Another Vietcong sniper he thought he had this down,
move back away and come back from around,
however he had to sneak past a hostel town,
but still got attacked by a soldier hiding underground.

The man with a machete came for his head,
without a quick reaction he would have been dead.
the enemy soldier claimed his right arm,
but immediately after got shot by sergeant’s side-arm.

Without a right arm in great pain, he still had to escape death,
what powered him through the forest of rain, was thinking of his mom Beth.
When he got to the camp that had no fire,
they fixed him, and told him “You have to retire”.

The protesters yelled and spat in his face,
with the persecution he felt out of place,
out of shame he left everything without a trace,
now everyone sees him as a homeless man without a face.
