In the Night
As you lie curled beneath layers of warming fabrics
I take a foray into the hours of darkness
Sky so black in the night’s bloom
Half shadowed moon with twinkling stars around her
Her gaze radiates upon the field of nightly common folk
Basking in her glory, a mere guest in her kingdom
I hear the whispering of mice up long past the hour of bed
The chortle of the nightly bird of prey
The distant bellow of the canine nightly worship
And as you dream of the perfect world
I am awake in its true inspiration
