Impossible Dream
I dream of traveling every corner of this beautiful Earth
Going to Italy for priceless food, then Bali to discover my worth
I've hit four continents out of seven so far in 17 years
But that's just left me with a mind full of memories and boxes full of souvenirs
So I guess what I'm trying to say is this:
I can dream of being the first female president of this great country
or imprinting my footsteps upon the moon to make a great discovery
However, I am no longer five years old
and I now know things aren't in my control
I stopped listening when people told me the sky is the limit
because this sky soon turned into the ceiling of my classroom
and as growing mind, such little expression was pretty inopportune
But I guess as time progressed, and I gained a point of view in retrospective
I allowed my impossible dream to gain some real perspective
To understand that for an action to be quixotic,
It must affect others, while still being something exotic
When he said to write about our impossible dream
I thought about something wildly obscene
But I was wrong to do that, because I now know that my impossible dream
is a world where every soul is educated -- children, adults and teens
I believe that education solves all world problems
and so I dream of the intergeneration of world peace and abolition of poverty
through reading, writing, arithmetic, and all things scholarly
but I don't mean the kind of education that results in sleep being just a five letter word
I mean the kind of education where no child's imagination is deterred
but I guess in those few hours of sleep, I was able to come up with my impossible dream
It's a world where every person has a book to read and food to eat
instead of social media to look through and girls' meals to skip to keep her figure incomplete
where the word elite doesn't connect to a blue binder that steals our adolescence
and test taking isn't something that measures our intelligence
The holocaust ended way back in 1945
but we're still defined my numbers in our everyday life
So when i say 2400, 4.0 and 5s,
every teenager get a little cringy inside
This constant strain from school is the reason we're so addicted to fake reality
because Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram blur our vision of the truth and we forget about the actuality
We've become so obsessed with having a feed to scroll through
that we forget to feed the millions of kids each night with no food
I dream of a world where we are less dependent on the electronic device in our hand
and more focused on the sky above our heads and the soil on which we stand
It's a world where people talk to each other face to face
instead of behind screen because l.o.l. for laughter is not something that we can replace
I dream of a world where one's self worth is not dependent on the amount of likes a picture gets
Because popularity is the type of stuff people forget
A world where every boy respects every girl
and every girl respects herself too
because there's nothing more precious than loving you for you
and don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of it all too
I mean that's the society we were brought up in
so I guess it's wrong to say it's our faults for these sins
So shame on society for bringing us up the way we are
but shame on ourselves for not changing it and letting it come this far
