Gone But Not Free
The grass isn't greener
on the other side.
Instead it is dead,
far from alive.
No, the grass isn't greener,
and the flowers are gone.
No animals in sight,
not a deer nor fawn.
The sky isn't blue,
and the birds don't chirp.
The trees have disappeared,
at least there's nothing left to hurt.
Walking miles and miles
but finding nothing but debris,
Nature is gone,
gone but not free.
