I Was the One They Called Anne Frank
I am the cheerful, the sunny, the bright
I am the girl robbed of my sight
Not through my sense, but through my soul
For right now I have nowhere to go
I am the girl from World War II
But like a jay, I continue to fight all the blue
I am the one trapped in places all dank
I am the one they call Anne Frank
I am trapped with movie stars on my wall
I am the one who will never lose and fall
I am the one with the menorah on my seat
Where we gather on Hanukkah to feast and to eat
I am the one persecuted by you
For I am the daughter of double a Jew
Trapped inside the office of my father
They call me freak, annoying, a bother
I am sister to the perfect one
I am pale next to her, the sun
I am unloved by my charitable mother
Only close to Peter, who is like a brother
I am the one who shares a room
I am trapped with a cranky old loon
I despise him and he despises me
To him, I am an annoying bee
I am the one loved by a boy
Despite that he is a hobble-de-hoy
He is the son of the two I hate
Who frown upon our urges to date
I am the one with the diary
The one that I use to finally be me
I am the one who will never lose hope
Despite being captured in chains of rope
I am the one who is now dead
I died from typhus in my sickbed
Was caught by a soldier with an anonymous call
Only my father survived it all
I was a girl with a life and dreams
I was the one with a future in seams
I was a girl who loved a boy
I was a girl who was full of such joy
I was the girl from World War II
I was the one who fought all the blue
I was the girl trapped in places all dank
I was the one they called Anne Frank

This poem is one that was written for a school assignment. After reading "Diary of Anne Frank," we had to write a poem related to either Anne Frank or the inhabitants of the Annex.
The colorful cast of characters are:
Anne Frank-narrator of this poem
Peter Van Daan-the "hobble-de-hoy" who Anne loves
Margot Frank-Anne's sister, the "perfect one"
Otto Frank-Anne's father; only one to survive after the Annex was raided by Nazis
Edith Frank-Anne's mother; Anne felt she favored Margot
Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan-Peter's parents, who disapprove of the budding relationship between Peter and Anne
Mr. Dussel-the "cranky old loon", a dentist residing in the Annex taken in by Anne's parents. He shares a room with Anne, but feels she is bothersome and too childish.
