Wings
People think the bird is singing
When all she does is cry
And they think that she is resting
When she's about to die.
Her cage is supposed to protect her
But all it does is hold her back
You see it as a loving embrace
She sees it as an attack.
You say that you clip her wings
Only to keep her safe
Yet now, if she's in danger
She has no escape.
You clip her wings
You lock her up
You say it's "for her own good"
You say how much you love her
But you never treat her like you should.
And when she takes her final breath
And she shan't sing again
Know that her memories of you aren't fond
But she finally found her freedom.
