green leaves mean summer.

summer means sun,

means early sunrise and

long spinning nights

means heat,
oppressive and heavy-hung
on the panes of windows

and the proud clicks
of high-heeled shoes on the
wooden planks of a balcony

the green leaves blow,
with dizzying strength, the
truth to summer’s lie

we do, yes we do,
they whisper

yes they do, they do,
we whisper in return.

and on we go, singing in the dark
behind a heavy windowpane

as the sun sinks and the earth spins
and the green leaves blow,
with dizzying strength,
the truth to summer’s lie.

Inspired in part by E.E. Cumming's what if a much of a which of a wind. One of his lines, "gives the truth to summer's lie;/bloodies with dizzying leaves the sun" is repeated in this poem.
