Momento Mori
It's difficult to keep face
when to remember is to erase;
memories are made
only to softly serenade
the delusion of eternity-
but infinity is not for me.
***
I could continue to move on
when all reason is far gone;
but what am I if not wrong
when I decide I've stayed too long?
the vastness of time-
is too big to be mine.
***
So I'll keep my own little piece
to hold tight to and then release;
moments are remembered
only to be dismembered
before they disappear-
I'll savor them while they're here

It's hard to find that beautiful balance between living for your mortality and living because of your mortality. This poem speaks to the conflict and how I resolved it in my own mind.
