Holocaust
I had dreams
hopes
desires
people I loved
even admired
then men poured in like a raging river
the houses shook
the mountains shivered
bones in the street
blood in the gutter
I looked for my dad
I searched for my mother
loads of movement
and rapid change
we question society
is the human race sane?
famine spread like wildfire
burnt out hope
empty desires
days were bleak
nights drug on
our eyes grew weary
our faces long
I watched as friends met their demise
some nightmares don’t end when you open your eyes
by day I let a number define me
at night I begged for sleep to find me
craving oblivion
grasping my sanity
depleting faith
in all of humanity
love turned to hate
and people to smoke
all hope devoured
our lives revoked
I lived my best
then I died
watch your step
the grave is wide
ears filled with screaming
eyes filled with violence
all on the day
when six million were silenced
