On a sunny day in May

My father's pipe blew smoke

Up into the tall tree's top

When suddenly the branches began to sway

And a bird with a song of beauty awoke.

The creature anounced its consciousness with a cheeryful tune

Making the neighborhood swoon.

From the porch of my towering house my father whistled a chatty "hey"

Allowing the bird to reply in song without a choke

Father didn't let the discussion drop

He replied with a sweet chorus, in a mimicking way

Yet again the sweet bird answered, but soon it's heart broke

The avian creature released one last croon

Recieving no response from my father, who was acting like such a prune!

Few moments passed before the lonely creature flew away

Leaving me to forever remember the day

Of conversing with the birds.

My dad and I were sitting out on our porch while he smoked his pipe, and a bird sang out from the top of a tall tree in our front yard, so my dad whistled back. Man and bird had a conversation that day!
