Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

Lord, watch over thy mother and father.
My little brother, Danny, too.
Let us take a moment away,
away from the dreadful scents of rotting things.
Lord, I wish that my family and I can get more for dinner than a biscuit or two.
My father needs more than this dirty hell can bring.
Lord, I pray you may heal them,
the sick and dying people surrounding me.
Their bodies are giving out,
but their souls still shine brightly.
I pray that these striped pajamas fade away and leave us be.
For, I am tired of these ashes I find on them, ever so lightly.
Lord, please take me back to when life was easy.

*This is NOT really from a girl in the Holocaust. This is a narrative poem.
