Latina woman with haggard, tired face
Cashiered the corner doughnut store, had
Gnarled hands and wrinkled, sun-burnt skin
To halfheartedly drape over her
Thin, translucent flesh, and it was as if
You could peel off her cracking layers, as if,
You could lose yourself in her dull, glazed eyes.
But the voracious shadow is cast over joylessness,
And now to consume the misery of existence—
Choking indifference.

With our busy everyday lives, we and society can escape anywhere with excuses and electronics. But if you're looking for a problem, it doesn't have to be in your math book or on Yahoo News. It can be right in front of you. And though you may not be able to solve it right now, never forget it and pay attention. Any person may be in need, and any person may be in a struggle.
