Vaughn R.
A hundred reasons for animosity
Yet the antagonist never pierces skin
The venom’s rancor spills at my regard
That I have in my hand an honest man
I’d call it an honor to be a scrutinized furor
The demons of his inner swain subsist in lastingness
A snake yields his mask at the will of another
Returned unfeigned as virgin skin touches torment
An act so sincere that my own stand falsified
Creditable only to a man stained in valor
To your gift of righteousness
I am left in your own debt

Vaughn R. egged my house 8 times, using dozens of eggs each time he did. He ended up paying for the damages (in order to avoid us pressing charges against him), and we made amends as he came over to clean the outside of my house. Months after the incident, he came to my house at night and explained that he had been spending time in libraries and discovered a passion for reading through the rehab program he had been put in after the incident. He handed me a copy of his favorite book, and I wrote this poem in reminisce of the incident and how I discovered the true character Vaughn had.
