All I'm About
I’m about waking up laughing.
I’m about spontaneous moments, about scootering in a skate park at 1a.m.
and spending hours counting shooting stars.
I’m about dancing in the rain and smearing mud on our shirts.
We are children of the earth so we might as well look the part.
I’m about hugs without reason and smirky smiles at friends sitting across the room.
I’m about making dinner from scratch, and taking two hours to do it because
it’s a new recipe and you don't quite know what you are doing.
I’m about saying what you think even if it makes people uncomfortable
and listening to other people’s opinions even when they are the exact opposite of your own.
I’m about chapstick with SPF and sticky sweaty skin under the sun.
I’m about water bottles and waterways
that lead to vast oceans filled with unimaginable life and energy.
I’m about the sunshine that makes snow glitter in the winter,
and the pink clouds that drift through the sky after sunset.
I’m about the alphabet’s endless possibilities for words and these words pasted,
drawn,
typed,
painted,
scrawled eagerly on pages in books,
folders,
laptops,
notebooks,
binders,
bathroom stalls;
These words are written on the sidewalk in chalk,
journals hidden under mattresses,
napkins in glove compartments,
the soles of a favorite pair of shoes,
and the backs of our hands.
I’m about staying up way past your bedtime and then sleeping for ten hours.
I’m about eating the entire box of mac and cheese,
about going for a run at 9p.m. on a Tuesday because that’s what your body wants to do.
I’m about cherishing each breath and
taking advantage of every day our lungs are still capable of rising and falling.
