Racism causes Judgment
Sarah walked in through the door one day after school and the smile was forced off her face,
like the leaves on the ground, blown away by the wind.
She wasn’t allowed to be happy because the one thing she wanted most, she couldn’t have.
She wanted to be with Jerome more than she ever wanted anything before.
He made her a better person. She didn’t want to hide her feelings the way that she had been in the past.
Sarah wants this to end. She can’t handle what’s been going on.
Society confused her, she didn’t understand why people would assume one person is just like all the rest
of them. She believes that if everyone was meant to be alike, they would look alike.
She doesn’t understand why her family won’t accept Jerome when they don’t even know him.
The saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” is the same for people too.

She can’t help what her heart wants. Sarah’s feelings always get the best of her.
They’ve only seen pictures and heard horrible rumors, they think that’s enough to judge.
Rumors fly around quick, but they aren’t always true. Not everything that is heard, can be trusted.
Just because the color of his skin, he’s not accepted, he’s not good enough.
If we get to know people before assuming things, we could make the world a better place.
Sarah would be happy again, and Jerome wouldn’t be as self-conscious.
It breaks Sarah’s heart knowing that her family forbids her to be happy with a guy because the way that
the rest of society treats his race. She feels that just because everyone else is against a group of people,
Individuals have a choice to react the same way or be the bigger person.
The saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” is the same for people too.

She can’t help but ask herself, “Why?”
What did Jerome ever do to deserve to be treated this way?
What makes him so bad? What did he do wrong?
What is so bad about him?
Because of rumors, society doesn’t want anything to have to do
with Jerome’s race. They ignore them, they’re xenophobic.
Because of rumors, Jerome is treated like a nobody. He’s
treated like trash, people don’t care what happens to him.
Sarah can’t see the person she loves all because assumptions.

Sarah feels alone in the world, like no one is on her side.
She’s going through everything by herself and her loud cries for help do nothing, but dig her deeper.
Moving on is the hardest thing to do because Jerome means the world to her.
Her tears and pain are invisible to everyone, they act as Sarah is okay.
She’s forced to stay away from the person that gives her a reason to wake up each day.
Sarah doesn’t know how much longer she can hide how hurt she is.
The only thing she wants is for society to treat one another with respect.
By getting to know a person instead of judging from looks and rumors, more people will be happy.
Because
