The Pursuit of Repression
One, two, three, four
No, no do it again once more
Erase what you've read
Don't you know chivalry is dead?
Five, six, seven, eight
You better not be late
Don't you remeber what happened last time?
Or have you already forgotten?
Nine, ten, eleven, twelve
Deeper into the mind you delve
At first there's nothing but white space
This is where the memories tried to be erased
Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen
What's about to go next cannot go unseen
No matter how deep you've buried it
You're chained to it for all of eternity
Seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty
The brain stores plenty
But when you tug on that chain
It brings back the pain as if it were yesterday
Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four
Bury it again once more
Think of a better time
Sing your nursery rhyme
And pray that you can not only forgive but forget
Twenty-five, twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight
This is the number of years it's been since that mistake
Pressing on but always reminiscing
It is this constant digression
That makes me plead for repression
But no one hears me
