Finally,
I’m alone.

Without the suffocating grip of society,
The sharp tongues of the unknown commentators,
The sorrowful, sympathetic eyes of the nameless faces.

Finally,
I’m alone.

No one to impress,
No one to entertain,
Just me and my confused, battered conscience.

Finally,
I’m alone.

Who would have known,
That this place,
Not quiet or serene by any means,
Would be my sanctuary.
My safe house.
My portal away from the world.

Finally,
I’m alone.

And the place,
With swarms of John Doe’s,
Would be my only comfort, in the lonely, ugly world we inhabit.

A Paradise of Strangers.

I was inspired to write this after seeing a prompt online. I loved the idea of being able to remain completely anonymous while being a crowded place.
