I heard your call from the back of my head,
a loud, deep rumble when I was in bed.

The bursts of noise and the flashes of light
kept me awake half the night.

I tossed and turned in my sleep
to frightened to utter a peep.

You shook me with a tremble, an earthquake from the sky.
Hungry for dominance, you never just let a storm roll by.

You called for more spring showers
to show off your so-called powers.

You’ve wrecked my life, slowly but surely,
you’ve withered away my entire being prematurely.

You didn’t have to stay.
Why couldn't you just go away?

You had a suspicious partner in crime;
she was there all the time.

Her sharp eyes burned with electricity
like enraged sockets brimming with complicity.

She eagerly threw bright strikes of light
towards the ground with all her might.

Pure white flashed through the skies,
illuminating the world with surprise.

Her veins burned with shock;
searing their deadly mark with mock.

They ruled the sky morning, afternoon, and night.
Together, Thunder and Lightning unite.
