Run Long
1. I don’t know when
2. I will have a son
3. That I can call my own
4. But when I do,
5. I want to give him advice
6. That will last much longer that I do.
7. So future son, this is for you.
8. Son, before you roam off,
9. I have a few words to say
10. To help you understand at least a little
11. About this confusing thing called life.
12. Life, my son, is like a long run, a VERY long run.
13. At the beginning, you will feel great
14. Because don’t we all at first?
15. We feel like we can conquer the world and roam as we please.
16. But be weary, my son,
17. Because there will be some days that we can’t conquer the world
18. And during those days some people will want to give up, but not you
19. No you won’t give up because I know you my son
20. You will not slip through the cracks of failure
21. But instead you will pave the way to success.
22. You will see opportunities that seem scary but you have to surge through them
23. Shoot, I didn’t think I was going to sign up for this here poetry night
24. But here I am so, my son, don’t be afraid to take opportunities.
25. You can now see the finish line and as you are taking the big strides
26. You remember all that you have done to get to this here moment
27. And as you finish you will look back to me and say
28. Thank you father for helping me
29. But what do I know I'm just you big old papa.

I wote this poem well because we had it assigned to us and immediatly i thought of my favorite hobbie, running. It was pretty simple to connect running to life (or more like my son). Thank you for reading it!!
