I don’t know where we went wrong,
Or why
But I do know
That I’ve seen more people
Use their own hands to kill
Than I have ever seen anyone use their own hands
To hold
Or have a hand to hold.
And I’m sorry that there are so many people
Who care more about their reputation?
Than they do their own well being
And that so many of us
Have fallen victim to the charades of our own media
Not knowing what’s right,
From what’s wrong
Slurring out words of hatred
Toward our closest companions
Not giving a single damn about how they feel

I don’t understand where we went wrong
Because I remember when our fun used to be
Sitting around a fire
Watching the smoke and flames dance together to a never-ending song
And now all we can do
Is watch lies form from our friends’ mouths’
As they take puffs of their drugs
And who knows what else
Or as they gossip about the latest fad,
That’ll never last,
Because we move so fast
That our lives have become imminent
And change has become the social norm.

I understand.
I understand
That something did go wrong
But I also understand
That we are not wrong,
And that we are only human
And to be human means that we are flawed.
We have a say in what goes on
From this day to forever

Take a stand, grab a hand, and make a change.
(Remember, it starts with you.)

I wrote this piece of work in my Honors English I Class recently and it is one of my most proud pieces that I have written. I really like it and feel like it has it's own words that I don't have to speak.
