They Think I Fit
They think I fit into their little categories
But I don't
I'm bent, at best
Like a dollar that can't be taken into a vending machine slot because of that one wrinkled end
Whatever you do, you can't straighten all of it out
It's bent, at best
Like those "unusual" rulers that bend and twist as they please
This particular ruler, though, only partially bends
The rest of it remains straight
Straight as a ruler "should be"
But it does not conform to either category
Bendy or straight
It is both straight and flexible
Not either or
It is bent, at best
Like me.

For everyone who doesn't "fit" into the lesbian, gay, or bisexual category. For those who are told their identity "doesn't exist." For those who receive hatred because they don't identify as something others can't wrap their heads around.
