You are the ever in forever,
the sunshine and the storm.
You are the gas to the car
and the sharp teeth in a shark's mouth.
You are the stars in the sky
and the fluffiness inside a teddy bear.

However, you are not the darkness in a flashlight
the quickness of a cheetah
or the meatballs on the spaghetti
And you are certainly not the nightmares in my sleep.

It is possible that you are the smile to my laugh
the witness to my best and worst times
maybe even the nuisance that makes me want to pull all my hair out of my scalp
But you are not even close to being the one that people want to mess with

And a quick look on the court will show,
That you are neither the slacking player that mopes around the whole time,
Nor the c***y "I'm too good and I will dominate your team" player.

You might like to know,
I am the eyes behind your head to ensure you are safe.
The towel to dry your eyes from the tears when crying,
And whoever makes you cry, will be the punching bag and I the boxer.

I am also the strength that keeps you motivated most of the time
And the liquid inside your cup to make sure it's not empty.
But don't worry, I am not the ever in forever
You are still the ever in forever.
You will always be the ever in forever,
not to mention the sunshine and somehow the storm.

The author's comments:

In class, we had to write a poem following Billy Collins format of the  poem Litany.  I wrote my poem about my relationship between my sister and me.  In one poem, I express my emotions towards my sister.  We go from fighting and loathing each other one minute, to loving and laughing the next.
