Kinda Perfect
It is not possible for us to have met
in any other way than we did.
We have always been told
that our story is like a fairytale.
It’s always been kinda perfect to me.
But if anything different had happened,
we wouldn’t be where we are today.
We wouldn’t have fallen in love.
If we had met any other way,
We would’ve barely even talked.
And what if we hadn’t met?
You’ve kept me from depression,
Of that I’m sure.
And you...who knows...after
What happened that one summer.
It’s been more than four years.
For teenagers, that’s long.
To adults, it’s astounding.
But to us it’s nothing different.
Every day is just us being together.
I mean, you’re not just what I
Would call, “my boyfriend.”
You are, without a doubt,
My best friend. I trust you,
I love you. You make me happy.
And that’s one of those
Kinda perfect elements to us.
I enjoy your company.
We can laugh together and
We tease each other.
But we are also each other’s
strongest supporter.
I have always been there for you.
You have, too, for me, and you help me
with my anxiety. Thank you.
We are two different people.
Very, very different people.
But, we both find comfort with electronics:
You, with a computer, and I, with a camera.
And that’s kinda perfect.
We are able to be separate.
Busy people lead busy lives,
And that’s certainly true for us.
But that’s okay. We are still ourselves,
But we are also us.
I know, sometimes I hold on
And tell you to stay,
But I love that we are able
to lead our own lives
yet still be happy together.
We have changed each other
For the better, I’m sure.
You help me be more confident
and I have helped you
out of your shell.
But that’s not to say, of course,
that I didn’t fall in love with the
person I met so long ago.
You are, and have been,
The person I love.
We just grew as people.
We changed together.
Sometimes we changed differently,
But never did we stop
loving who the other was.
Soon, we will change a lot.
And we will be very separate.
143.4 miles will be our barrier.
But that won’t stop us from
loving who the other is.
We are not the same people
That we were when we met
at thirteen years of age.
Who is, honestly?
And who would want that?
As much as we have changed,
We maintain sight of that
pure, innocent love we felt at
thirteen years. And now, at eighteen,
Our love is even better.
I have never met someone
That I felt I could be fully honest with,
That is, except for you.
We’ve always been honest.
About everything.
We’re probably an anomaly.
What teenager finds mature, deep love?
We never looked for it,
And maybe that’s why
We were able to find it.
You started out as my friend.
You are still my friend. Our meeting
Was pure chance.
The best luck that
I’ve ever had.
So thank you for that.
Thank you for meeting me.
Thank you for talking to me.
Thank you for being my friend.
Thank you for loving me as I love you.
Thank you so much for our
Kinda perfect love story.
