Little Faces
Little faces burning 3-2
Tiny tears turning
Miniature breaths screaming
Smaller hearts beating
Itsy-bitsy noses sniffle
While greater hands bristle
Teeny souls are shattered
To the larger it doesn’t matter
Little faces burning
The world keeps on turning
Adolescent hands now type
To try to make things right

My poem was inspired by line 5 of Elie Wiesel’s poem, Never. In the poem he spoke of when he witnessed children being murdered, “Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky”. This made me feel very desolate, specifically for those young lives who were lost in the German Holocaust of WWII.
