Stay for Tomorrow
Little boy,
Pushed and taunted
No place to go,
He feels unwanted
No friends around and no one to confide in
He already wants to go home
And school has yet to begin
He walks to the front of the class to take his seat
He can hear the words being spoken about him;
He’s already accepted defeat
Sitting silently trying to ignore the voices in his head
He stares blankly at the board ahead
When the teacher calls on him he stammers like a fool
The kids in the back only use this as fuel
He tries to play it off cool but the tears start flowing
The pain he feels inside keeps growing
He makes it home;
His mother asks him about his day,
The only words he can manage are “They…”
His voice cracks and he starts to cry
His mother feels helpless and hurt inside
He tells her about his day,
He doesn't know if he can take another
She calms him down and begins to mutter
“It gets better” and “Tomorrow’s a new day”
If only he would've listened to those words,
That little boy might still be here today
The kids walked into school the next day to see the boy’s mother
The kids all sat down; one after the other
The little boy’s seat remained vacant
His mother began to speak, her voice still shaken
She broke the news and the children gave her hugs
The kids began to realize the severity of what they had done
They apologized for everything that day,
But honestly there wasn't much else to say
They had taken away what meant most to her
And that’s something those kids have to live with forever
